Enamel on Mylar Emergency Blanket
I am interested in the historical and contemporary relationships between chocolate and state-sanctioned violence-- from colonial conquests for cacao to current military contracts between the US Department of Defense and Hershey. Conflating found imagery from Easter candy wrappers with emergency blankets, I am exploring objects given for pacification and in emergency situations that are anything but comforting. Focusing on the pseudoscientific term "tender age" used by the US Border Patrol Agency to detain child migrants, I pathologize the responses of FEMA and ICE alike in their meager efforts to supply shelter or terrorize communities, offering a mylar blanket for shelter.
